Monthly Wrap-up: January 2017

Hi, book queens, kings and non-binary royalty!
Well... I'm back! I know, I know. I haven't posted in almost an entire month. Between personal issues and simply distractions I haven't posted anything.
Today I bring you my January Wrap-up. Do be warned: it was an awful reading month. I only read one book but I did start several (that I still haven't finished to be honest). This year didn't begin that well.
So here is the only book I read and my opinion of it.

If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo follows our main character Amanda as she's starting anew in Lambertville, Tennessee. She's a transgender girl and in order to fit in she hides that. But she doesn't want to get too close to anyone because that would mean they would get closer to her secret.
Then she meets Grant who - unlike anyone she's met before - is open, honest and kind and she just let's him get close to her.

First of all this book is incredibly important especially for LGBTQIA+ teens. Since this is own voices we get a truly honest insight of the life of a transgender person. We know about some medications and the changes throughout time that Amanda went through in her transition from Andrew to Amanda. That's something I had no knowledge of and it helped me understand more about transgender people.
I'm genuinely glad Meredith wrote this book because teens need to know more about this group within the LGBTQIA+ community.
I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads but in my notebook I gave it a 9/10 rating because of *spoiler ahead* a outing scene. It was addressed on page and the person that outed Amanda as transgender apologized but it was only a way of Amanda's friends finding out without her having to tell them. *end of spoiler*

That is it for this post. Have you read If I Was Your Girl? If not, do you plan on reading it? What have you read on this first month of 2017?
I'll see you soon (I hope), book royalty! And don't forget to always keep reading!
