Wrap-Up: June

By Marta - 9:00 AM

And it's time for me to share with you all the books I read during June.
Like in May, I read 8 books which made June a great reading month.

I intended to read only LGBTQIAP+ books since it was Pride Month... that did not happen. Only 3 out of the 8 books featured queer MCs. But in the end, it was a great reading month.

And without further ado, let's get into the books!

The three first books I read last month were all 5 stars! It was the best start to the month, to be very honest.
  • Leah On The Offbeat by Becky Albertalli ** I started this one in May and y'all it was so good!!! I related to Leah in so many aspects and I'm so glad Becky Albertalli gave us this adorable story. Though there was a scene that was hurtful to many, including me, which you can read more about on Marianne's review, I ended up giving it 5 stars because it was just amazing. TW: identity policing
  • Autoboyography by Christina Lauren ** I connected to Sebastian (the love interest of the protagonist) a lot. Living in a religious homophobic family, that's my reality. But I don't feel safe enough to come out. The romance was so cute. And sad. I cried so much. I also laughed a lot. In the end, this book is definitely going to be one of my favorites of the year. TW: homophobia, homophobic slurs
  • All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely ** #RashadIsAbsentAgainToday The importance of this book is enormous. It was so powerful and it's needed. Rashad is a victim of police brutality and Quinn knows the policeman that assaulted Rashad. We get both points of view and this book was incredibly amazing. TW: racism, police brutality

The three next books I read were all ARCs (yes, I've had an ARC of Geekerella for over a year and only read it last month).
  • Skin & Earth Volume 1 by Lights ** 3/5 stars ** I really enjoyed the art. I liked the plot. And that was it. The characters weren't that interesting to me. But the end made me a bit curious about what happens next? So I don't know if I'll eventually continue reading this series or not. TW: death
  • Geekerella by Ashley Poston ** 4/5 stars ** The first of two Cinderella retellings I read last month. I adored it. The geek inside me enjoyed this a lot. The romance was hilarious and adorable. When I finished reading this I said it was my favorite Cinderella retelling (which changed by the end of the month) and that says a lot! TW: abusive mother and stepsister
  • The Titan Strain by Virginia Soenksen ** 3.5/5 stars ** My thoughts on this book are basically a rollercoaster. The first third of the book I really enjoyed. The second third was so boring. The last third was amazing and I absolutely loved it. So the middle made me drop the rating or else it would have been 4.5/5 stars. TW: blood, violence

And the end of the month was amazing with two other 5-star reads!
  • Cinder by Marissa Meyer ** I've had this book for 2 years and only now did I read it. W H Y? I loved it. It was amazing. I love the world and I loved the characters. I flew through it so fast. I need to buy the rest of this series because seriously I can see this becoming one of my favorite series! TW: abusive mother and stepsister, death
  • Everything Leads To You by Nina LaCour ** The perfect summer read for me. There wasn't a single thing about this book that I disliked. The friendship between Emi and Charlotte is so perfect. And Emi and Ava's romance was adorable. Overall I absolutely loved this book. TW: homophobia, drug abuse, death

Overall it was a great reading month. An amazing one even.
And those were all the books I read last month! Which books did you read? Let me know in the comments down below.

  1. Wow, you read some great books in June! I feel pretty much the exact same way about Leah-- I totally recognize that it was hurtful (to me, as well), but Leah and her story still really resonated with me on a personal level. I read All American Boys a few months ago, and it blew me away. Such an important, timely read. Autoboyography and Everything Leads to You were both five-star reads for me, as well! Happy reading for the rest of this month! <3
